While his sound is hard to define, it is easy to love. Nyne has emerged as one of the Caribbean’s newest and best exports. The talented singer, writer, and producer started his journey through music at a young age. He says “it was always around me. My mom was always playing some record or the other.” Not only was Nyne’s mother playing records but she was featuring on them. His mom Amelia provided backup vocals for Bankie Bankx, the hottest reggae singer to come out of their native island, Anguilla, in the 70s and 80s. Artists such as Bankx, Sanchez, R. Kelly, Usher and Neyo all made an indelible impression on Nyne. Evidence of this is clearly heard in his unique and eclectic beat blends, melodies and harmonies.Surrounded by this caliber of talent from a young age, Nyne was inspired to become a DJ. After high school Nyne moved from his tiny Caribbean island to New York City. While he continued to DJ at college parties and basement jams in all five of the city’s burrows, he decided to try his hand at writing songs and producing beats. He liked what he heard. So did his friends. Nyne joined with his cousin Nado and formed an act that produced one album. The two decided to take their individual creativity and establish solo careers. Nyne took all of these experiences and began to craft a collection of R&B songs fused with influences from reggae, dancehall, soca, zouk and other island beats to come up with a wonderful mixture of smooth romantic tracks, mid tempo chillers and a few party starters. His breakout R&B single “If you don’t know” has garnered him a huge fan base in the Caribbean. His follow up to that was a remixed Haitian compas version of that song produced by super producer Hypnoz and featured French Guiana chanteuse Jade. That remix has taken both France and the French Caribbean by storm and has solidified another fan base for Nyne, in another language. Nyne’s music goes deep and penetrates the soul of the listener. His songs truly show how music of different genres can be fused to make something even more beautiful.
